Info for new pet parents
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW PET!
As having a pet comes with many responsibilities, here is some advice to keep your pet happy and healthy.
Is your pet 6 -8 weeks old?
Your pet is due for its first set of vaccinations. Just bring your pet over to our hospital and we will vaccinate, deworm and provide you with a free bag of Science Diet dry food for your puppy or kitten. We will remind you about future vaccinations as well.
It is a good idea to bring a fecal sample when you visit. We will send it to the lab to check for parasites and have the results in one business day. If your pet tests positive, we will contact you with further instructions.
Regular check-ups every six months is recommended to maintain the health of your pet.
If you see your pet with any of the symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting, blood in stool, or any other unusual symptom, please bring your pet to see the veterinarian as soon as possible.
Is your pet older than a year?
Please remember to bring any vaccination records when your pet comes in for a check-up. We will let you know when your pet is due for its annual vaccinations. If your pet has not yet had a rabies vaccination or if it is time for its next rabies vaccination, we will also take care of that for you.
Any pet who has not been spayed or neutered
Not only is it is now the law to have your pet spayed or neutered, but it is also beneficial for you and your pet.
Research shows that pets who have been spayed or neutered live longer and have lower risks of health problems, including certain types of cancer. You can also curb behavioral problems if you spay or neuter them at a young age. Finally, you can help control overpopulation, considering 5 to 7 million companion animals end up in shelters across the US.
Your pet can be spayed or neutered starting at 4 months of age as long as they have been fully vaccinated. Appointments are required for surgeries, which can be made at (213)387-3388.
